2009-01-16 [Artsieladie]: We have shelters that euthanize, too. This makes rescue groups even more important, because many rescue groups try to save the pets, especially on 'death row' (their time is up). This is one of the reasons why I advocate spaying and neutering. People need to realise that when they allow more to be continually brought into the world, many of these being brought in and many more that are already here without 'good' homes, are doomed as a result. There just aren't enough 'good' homes for all of the millions of pets in need. MILLIONS of innocent pets get destroyed across the US every single day! What people do not know, too, is that a pet that is spayed or neutered has a better chance at living longer, because they are less prone to diseases such as cancer. For example, cancer is more prevalent or likely in an unspayed female's reproductive organs and related organs, than in a female that has been spayed. :/
2009-01-16 [Alexi Ice]: I know, my cousin had puppys with her dog and couldn't sell them so I ended up taking them from her before she killed them because she didn't have the means to take care of them...it was so sad.
2009-01-16 [Artsieladie]: Yup! ...And her case is only one of the thousands and thousands just like it or very similar. Another problem is that too many people feel that animals are disposable, but if these same people could have witnessed what I have and so many other people that try to spare the lives of animals, they might not be so quick to think this way. :/
2009-01-16 [Alexi Ice]: I wonder how we can make a differnce? IS there an animal crulty awareness WIKI on ET?
2009-01-16 [Artsieladie]: There is. It's called Animal Cruelty. It hasn't been too active in awhile, though. :P
2009-01-16 [Alexi Ice]: Oh! Cool! I didn't know that!
2009-01-16 [Artsieladie]: I joined this wiki not too long after I became a member of ET. ;)
2009-01-16 [Alexi Ice]: I didn't even know it existed but I wrote my name down as a member a second ago ^^
2009-01-17 [Artsieladie]: Cool! :) I was always going to start a wiki about the rescuing of pets, because there are many people that have given pets that needed a good home, a home, but I just never did. :P
2009-01-17 [Alexi Ice]: Yeah I have saved two from the mouth of death, my shepard and the little corgy we have. That would be a neat idea.
2009-01-17 [Artsieladie]: Yeah, I thought so, too. People love to talk about their pets and I love to listen to the stories, but I especially love stories with happy endings. :D
Some jerk by me just left his pitbull outside in this weather (-11 degrees F) and the dog froze to death! So sad and tragic! Some people's ignorance, plain stupidity, lack of caring, etc., makes my blood boil. :,(
2009-01-17 [Alexi Ice]: ^^ I do love to talk about my pets! I love them so much!
He died! OMg the poor thing!! Tell me you turned him in, animal cruelty is a federal offence!!!
2009-01-19 [Artsieladie]: Yeah, his butt is in jail, but what's that in comparison to what he allowed to happen? I have a lot of patience and I will usually try to be understanding, but for something like this, I have no patience, understanding, or anything else for. There IS NO EXCUSE! His bloody lame excuse was that he forgot the dog was outside. To make matters worse, the dog was horribly thin, so I guess he must have forgotten to feed the dog as well? .... and many times? Bloody bastard! *grrrrrrr*
2009-01-19 [Alexi Ice]: Yeah! How do you even excuse something like that? Someone should leave his ass out in the cold to freeze to death without anything to eat and see how he likes it! There was a father not far from here who left his CHILDREN outside and they died...It was HORRIBLE. How do you live with yourself after something like that?
2009-01-19 [Artsieladie]: Yes! I believe that there should be in place a law/rule as in "An eye for eye, a tooth for a tooth", because many of these jerks/idiots/m
2009-01-19 [Alexi Ice]: Yeah but unfortunatly a lot of people don't think about it that way....*sigh* It takes a lot to change the world.
2009-01-20 [Artsieladie]: I know. Instead, all of us law abiding, tax paying citizens have to foot the bill for their room and board, medical and dental care, entertainment, etc., etc., while we, the law abiding, tax paying citizens can't even afford to pay for our own needs! Ludicrous! *grrrr*
2009-01-21 [Artsieladie]: I hope so!
2009-01-22 [Nomak]: You know the more you help the less animals get put down?
2009-01-22 [Artsieladie]: I know this. I have helped at the very least, over 500 pets. I have rescued them from abusive and neglectful situations. I have taken pets in that were only going to end up at a shelter. I have taken pets in that were about to be euthanised by a shelter. What we need is for more people to wake up and stop allowing more pets to be continuously and needlessly brought into the world. So many people just do not get it! When they do nothing to put a limit on the procreation, they are contributing to the death of millions of animals that are already here and then contributing to the inevitable doom for the ones they are allowing to be brought into the world, besides. Being a person that has been an active pet rescuer for many years, I know what I'm talking about. If there were MORE concerned people, at some point this scenario might have a chance to be plateaued at least and then hope for avertion, but as long as the majority of the public maintain a cavelier attitude, I do not see this situation getting any better, but increasingly worse.
